Features
The Hold Current Limiter (HCL) was specifically designed to work in
conjunction with the Marotta 24-ohm solenoid valves that operate at
1 ampere. It activates the valve only when a valid power source (18
to 32 VDC) is received. The maximum power consumption is 28 watts at
28 VDC for the first 0.25 seconds. The power level is then reduced
to 3 to 5 watts depending on the duty cycle of the solenoid’s
inductive load characteristic.
The device has reverse polarity protection and can also sense loss
of input power (> 5 millisecond). Should loss of power occur,
maximum current is applied to the valve for 0.25 seconds, after
which the holding current is again applied. The Hold Current Limiter
consists of a small printed circuit that fits into the area of the
valve connector.
Specifications
Input Power
Input voltage is 15 to 32 VDC.
Current Driver
The Hold Current Limiter is a ripple current regulator that pulse
width modulated the supply voltage to the solenoid. It includes
current feedback circuitry that assures the current to the solenoid
remains constant with changes to the solenoid impedance as the
ambient temperature changes, and when there are variations with the
supply voltage.
Electrical Interface
The power will be input through the connector:
(MIL-C-38999/20FXXXPN).
Power Consumption
The maximum power consumption shall be 28 watts at 28 VDC for the
first 0.25 seconds. The power level is then reduced to 3 to 5 watts
depending on the duty cycle of the solenoids - inductive load
characteristic.
Ambient Pressure
Designed to operate in a pressurized environment.
To operate in a hard vacuum environment, special thermally
conductive epoxy will have to be used to insure proper heat
dissipation of the electronic component.
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
Electrostatic discharge control program for protection of electrical
and electronic parts, assemblies, and equipment shall be in
accordance with MIL-STD-1686 and MIL-HDBK-263. ESD control program
shall include design, test, inspection services, manufacturing
(processes, assembly, conformal coating etc.), and labeling.
