production contract with Snecma on Ariane 5 launcher
January 14, 2005 (Dublin, Ireland) - Marotta Ireland Ltd., a leading Aerospace Engineering provider based in Dublin, today signed a major contract with Snecma Moteurs of Vernon, France, for the supply of sub-assemblies and components on the main Vulcain engine of the Ariane 5 launcher, Europe's heavy-lift launch vehicle. The contract is for the Pa phase of the Ariane 5 production and is valued at approximately 5.5 million Euro. It covers a variable combination of engine sets for the Vulcain Engine and the higher thrust Vulcain 2 engine. Significantly, this is the first Pa contract to be signed between Snecma and its key suppliers on the Vulcain engine, and marks almost 20 years of partnership between the two companies. "Marotta Ireland has been a key member of the Ariane family for almost 20 years and has earned a reputation for excellence throughout the international space community," said Guy Corteel, Vice President and General Manager of Snecma Moteurs, Vernon, France. "I look forward to continuing our relationship as we move into the next phase of European space flight." The components, collectively known as the Engine Supports, are the mission critical structural elements, which connect the major sub-assemblies of the engine, such as the turbo pumps, gas generator and main valves with the combustion chamber. Manufactured from high strength temperature resistant super alloys such as Inconel 718, the Engine Supports were designed, developed, tested and qualified by Marotta Ireland during the ESA funded Ariane 5 development programmes, which aim to maintain Europe's position as the market leader in satellite launch services. "This contract represents another significant milestone in Marotta Ireland's long and proud association with Snecma and the Ariane 5 program," said Alan Sweeney, Managing Director of Marotta Ireland. "The continued success of this launch vehicle ensures Marotta Ireland remains a key supplier to the European space industry." Marotta Ireland Acquires Space Valve
